Drag and drop feature coming to iPhone

Hi, I’m Omer, A student in the Advanced UI/UX Digital product design course by Sagi Shrieber at Studio 6b.

In 2017 Apple release iOS 11 which brings the Split View and the slide over to iPad. I believe that split view can change the way we using apps today.

2 years passed after the apple released iOS 11 to everyone and. I decided to design a concept of split view to iPhone.

Drag and drop on iPad (iOS 11)

Drag and Drop on the iPad

“While Drag and Drop was primarily built for the iPad, there are a limited number of Drag and Drop features that also work on the iPhone.

You can use the multi-drag feature to drag more than one app from the Home screen into a folder or onto another screen, and you can drag and drop files between different folders in the Files app. Outside of these two use cases, there’s no other Drag and Drop functionality available on the iPhone at this time.” — MacRummors

So whats the problem?

Imagine a senerio: you want to send some pictures by email to your friend from San Francisco, the user needs to tap a long press on the screen to choose “Insert Photos or videos” and tap on “All Photos” and then select photo.
Sure you ask yourself why just one photo? because Apple has not yet made a lot of choices.

Suggested Solutions

When I thought how to solve the problem I had an idea to create a split view and that cause to think how Apple didn’t thought about that before?

I thought how can I attach photos to email easily. What the fastest and easiest to attach photos to mail?

I started to sketch my idea on a page and I sketched a half of Mail app and a half of Photos app.

Drag and Drop

With drag and drop you can quickly move texts, photos, links and files from one app to another.

You can choose photos and add them to mail quickly.

Summary

I really enjoyed to think about that. I’ve been working on this feature and idea for the past 2 weeks and I hope to hear something about that when iOS 13 will be available to public.

That’s all for now, hope you liked my case study.
